While filming salmon in the Campbell River on Vancouver Island, BC, we were able to swim among a run of Pink Salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha). While complicated by drought in some areas, the run was record breaking in many parts of the watershed.
We came across a few large dead Chinook (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), but the early September run was mostly Pink.
Most of our underwater filming was in the main river channel, but we did make a few visits to the Quinsam Hatchery where the salmon attracted a few local black bears for the easy pickings…
